What Is Gift Deed?
A gift deed is a legal instrument for transferring property without monetary consideration, governed by Section 122 of the Transfer of Property Act 1882. It is commonly used for family transfers such as parents gifting property to children or between spouses, and attracts lower stamp duty rates compared to sale deeds in Delhi. The gift deed must be registered at the Sub-Registrar office and becomes irrevocable once accepted by the donee. Both donor and donee must be competent to contract, and the transfer must be made out of natural love and affection.
